Today, I was shown what a departure might feel like with the trim tab set for a landing, but not using the yoke to keep the nose down. After setting the plane up for a normal glide, we added full power and it nosed up. So, we applied forward pressure on the yoke to recover, then trimmed for normal climb.
We also had a strong crosswind from the West, 9kts gusting to 15kts today. It was a real challange and a whole lot of fun to do pattern work in these conditions. Crabbing into the wind in the pattern wasn't too difficult and I was surprised that keeping the track on centerline during final wasn't too hard either. The transition to straightening the nose and lowering the wing into the wind wasn't too difficult either. I've practiced these in the simulator but not recently. Therefore, I felt that I was sloppy. My instructor said I did good but I know I could have done better.
