Practice flying

Arrived at the FBO today and talked with my instructor about the motion sickness issues again. I purchased the ReliefBand to see if it would keep my air sickness away. I didn't tell my instructor about it right away, however. I wanted to see if it would work in the air. My instructor told me that we either need to fly and hope it goes away after time, or go up and push it to it's limits. I was OK with the latter because I wanted to see the ReliefBand do it's magic. On today's ajenda was more VOR navigation, turns around a point and steep turns.

I go out to preflight the plane and couldn't get the door open. Checked the lock and it was unlocked, but the handle would only come out about and inch. I pushed on the door to relieve the pressure and yank the handle, but it wouldn't budge. So, I decided to go back and get help. My instructor looked at it and then called Keith over - heck of a nice guy. He crawled into the baggage compartment and released the seat-back lever for the rear seat enough to be able to reach the cockpit door window. Now, we could reach in and un-do the door latch. I gave it a shot, also. Now, I know what to do if the door won't open.

I taxied and took off and went to the East after departing runway 16. Wind was light at 170 and it was calm, aloft. We practiced passing through a radial of the EMI VOR and then found a point and did turns around it. I kept getting too close to the point after 3/4 away around the point. I need to practice this more. But, it wasn't too hard.

Then, it was time to practice steep turns. We did a few to the left and to the right, both 360 and 180 degree turns. No problem! My instructor asked what I did differently to avoid the problems and I told him about the band at that point. I actually enjoyed them and was able to hold my altitude reasonably well. I was very impressed with the ReliefBand.

Finally, we entered the pattern and landed. I was on the controls with my instructor again, but I'm itching to land it myself.
