CustomAutoTrim.com Hood Scoop installation
June 16, 2007

By visiting CustomAutoTrim.com, the HS003 hood scoop can be installed in about 1 to 2 hours. I had them pre-paint my hoodscoop by following the instructions on their page for obtaining the paint code. 2 weeks later, I had an excellent product ready for installation!

The hood scoop arrives with all the necessary screws and 3M adhesive tape to perform this installation. The instructions are straightforward. However, double-check the installation template before drilling. My template was off by 1/4" on 2 of the screws. It's best to tape the template to the bottom of the hood scoop and use a nail to find the exact hold positions!

Here's the hood scoop.

Put it on your truck where you want it. I measured 6.5" to the back, about 20" to the sides, and then put tape on the hood to indicate it's position.

Place the template in that position and use a center punch to set the center of where you're going to drill 7 holes.

Drill 7 1/4" holes. I used a small drill bit first to make pilot holes then used the 1/4" drill bit to cut to size.

Remove the liner fromt he inside of the hood. Drill from the top down, using a smaller bit that 1/4" to create pilot holes. Then drill up from under the hood with a 1/2" drill bit to make holes big enough to fit the screw heads through.

Apply primer to the newly cut holes to provide corrosion protection.

Prime the top.

Prime the bottom.

Flip the hood scoop over and wipe the recessed parts with alcohol (not provided).

Install the black trim to the front of the scoop using 3M tape (provided) and 2 screws. Cut the 3M tape from the roll (provided) to fill the recessed areas.

Remove the tape, place the hood scoop on the hood and run the screws in from the bottom. I had an assistant hold the scoop just above the hood while I started all the screws before resting the tape on the hood.

Replace the under-hood liner and you're done!
